AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka was the keynote speaker on the second day of the IATSE International Convention in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He delivered a rousing speech. He called IA President Matt Loeb a friend who worked tirelessly to defend the interests of the IA and its membership. Trumka said “when private sector union membership remained flat, you continued to grow.” Trumka refused to accept a passive response to economic downturns. “We want to get a fair share of the wealth we produce… The economy isn’t like the weather. We can change it.” He refused to line up behind Republicans or Democrats. He called for “a long overdue conversation on income inequality and wages.”
