What is your name?
Chris Chae.
What is your classification or job?
Sound Editor and Re-recording Mixer.
List the credits you’re most proud of:
-Uncut Gems (was the project where I felt my career started to catch some more momentum and allowed me to move up in the industry also where I met Skip Lievsay)
-Ken Burns Country Music (the last job I got to mix with Dominick Tavella before he retired)
-The Smashing Machine, Marty Supreme, The Chair Company (more recent jobs I did that I was very proud of the work I had done)
Who are your influences or mentors?
Skip Lievsay and Dominick Tavella. I worked with Dominick Tavella in the earlier stages of my career and after he had retired I had met Skip Lievsay while working on Uncut Gems and through that got the opportunity to work with Skip more often and still work with him on projects even now like most recently on The Smashing Machine and Marty Supreme.
What are you watching right now?
Monarch cause I loved Godzilla as a kid so it’s cool to see it now in episodic form and relive the excitement of seeing those monsters back on screen.
What is your guilty pleasure – TV shows or movies?
I’m a sucker for rom-coms and coming of age stories that can get you a little teary eyed haha.
What would be your dream project to work on?
A musical film or film told through song performances has always been on my career bucket list – movies like Chicago, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Inside Llewyn Davis were such great experiences to watch – and having song as dialog to tell the story is very captivating to me.
What was your favorite childhood food dish?
Fried Chicken and Gimbap.
What’s a meaningful film to you as an Asian American that you would recommend?
As a Korean American, I admired Bong Joon Ho and the exposure his films had in the states. I remember in High School his movie The Host gained popularity amongst even the non-asian classmates so that movie always left an impression and of course his film Parasite for the mainstream recognition it got in the states
