The Motion Picture Editors Guild is set to honor longtime Guild veteran Bill Elias with its prestigious Fellowship & Service Award in a January ceremony.
Established in 2007, the Fellowship & Service Award is a distinguished recognition, given for a career that exemplifies the values most cherished by the Guild: Professionalism, Collaboration, Mentorship, Generosity of Spirit, and a Deep Commitment to the Labor Movement.
Elias joined the Guild in 1968 and has played a leadership role for more than 50 years, including service as a Board member and Sergeant-at-Arms. He also worked on the Election Committee and on the Guild’s Constitution and By-laws. He remains one of the most recognizable faces at Guild events to this day.
He started the Guild’s annual Retirees Luncheon in 1981 and has overseen the Los Angeles event ever since. As an editor, he worked for decades at Paramount Pictures in the department that re-edited feature films licensed to the airlines and television networks.
In 2025, IATSE honored Elias with its President’s Award for his 52 years as an IATSE convention delegate.
“Bill Elias personifies all the qualities we look for in a recipient of the Fellowship & Service Award,” said F. Hudson Miller, President of Editors Guild.
“Having served on the Guild’s Board of Directors for over 50 years, Bill’s selfless dedication to IATSE Local 700 can only be equaled by the gratitude of the Guild and its members. Well done, Bill! We look forward to celebrating your service to your sisters, brothers and kin.”
“Labor is my passion, and I’m grateful to my peers for this wonderful honor,” Elias said.
Past recipients of the Fellowship & Service Award include Donn Cambern, Dede Allen, Thomas C. Short, Carol Littleton, Don Hall, Don Mitchell, Joseph Aredas, Lillian Benson, Lee Dichter, Martin Cohen and Bobbi Banks.
UPDATE, July 27: An earlier version of this story has been corrected to clarify Elias’ role at Paramount.
