In Memoriam: Robert Wilson Ewing II, January 12, 1948 – September 2, 2025

Editor Robert Wilson Ewing II passed away on September 2, 2025 in Los Angeles. Born in Chicago, Illinois on January 12, 1948, Robert attended Purdue University to study electrical engineering.

Inspired by the young actors at Purdue, Robert switched to theater arts where he was immediately cast as the Prince in “Once Upon a Mattress.” After his second year in the theatre department, Robert transferred to UCLA Film School where he was able to apply both his engineering and theatre background to filmmaking.

Upon graduation, Robert became an assistant editor at CBS Television City where he worked from 1970-1975 on various CBS Network programs. Over the course of his television career as a supervising sound editor, Robert worked on numerous television shows, including “Family Affair,” “The Winds of War,” “Angel,” as well as “Melrose Place” with the great Aaron Spelling.

Robert also served as a producer on shows like “Knight Rider,” “Sledge Hammer!”, and the “Incredible Hulk” movie franchise. He continued his career with a return to CBS Television City and CBS Network as Senior Editor, Broadcast Standards.

Robert retired from CBS in 2019. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Catherine, daughter Barbara, and three lovely, creative grandchildren. A skilled storyteller and technician, Robert will be remembered most as a collaborator full of optimism and a great sense of humor. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the UCLA Film School at tft.ucla.edu/give.
