In Memoriam: Roxanne Jones McCarthy, January 9, 1953 – April 28, 2026

Roxanne Jones McCarthy passed away Tuesday, April 28th in Big Bear City, California, where she lived with her husband Tom McCarthy. Roxanne passed after fighting dementia for 13 years.

She started her career in the entertainment industry in the mid-’70s. Her first screen credit was on “Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope,” which was released on May 25, 1977.

Later in her career, Roxanne became a sound editor for television, working on shows such as “The A Team.” She received a Motion Picture Golden Reel Award in 1983.

Thirty-six years ago, she married Tom C. McCarthy, sound supervisor and Executive Vice President, Post Production Facilities, at Sony Pictures Studio.

During her feature years, Roxanne supervised sound on many motion pictures such as “Arachnophobia,” “Beethoven” and “Kindergarten Cop.” She owned and operated her own sound editorial company called On Track Sound.

After finishing her duties as supervising sound editor on the feature film “Can’t Hardly Wait” in 1998, Roxanne retired and focused her life on raising her son, Kaysen. She became became a room mom and head of the PTA at Good Shepherd Lutheran School in Simi Valley.

She had a strong love for horses; her father Jay Jones and Jonny Grant owned the professional polo ponies at the Burbank Equestrian Center. Roxanne rode her horses in the Rose Parade and the Hollywood Christmas Parade.

Roxanne was a loving wife to Tom and mother to Kaysen, and stepmother to Lindsay and Dustin, who works at Sony Pictures Studio. She was sister to Jay Jones, who worked at Larsen Sound and retired from Universal Studios, and also to Sue Jones, who worked at Disney Studios. She was daughter to Betty Lee Jones, who worked for Jerry Christensen at Universal Studios.

Roxanne was the rock of her family and very devoted to helping others, including feeding the homeless at a church in Simi Valley. She will be extremely missed by her family and the many friends she had throughout her life. Rest in peace, Roxanne.
