Lillian Benson, ACE, will be honored with a Trailblazer Award from Black Public Media at a ceremony in New York next month.
Benson, perhaps best-known for her Emmy-nominated work on the PBS series “Eyes on the Prize II,” will be interviewed onstage by NPR broadcaster Brittany Luse at the PitchBLACK Forum & Awards in Harlem on May 1.
Editors Guild honored Benson in 2017 with its Fellowship & Service Award, meant to recognize persons in post-production who embody professional excellence, mentorship and commitment to the labor movement.
“Eyes on the Prize,” which told the story of the Civil Rights movement, remains a career highlight for Benson. “Since ‘Eyes on the Prize’ has been used extensively in colleges, universities and public schools, more people have seen my work on that series than on anything else I have edited,” she told CineMontage in 2015.
Her other picture editing credits include “Greenleaf,” “Maya Angelou: And Still I Rise,” and “Get in the Way: The Journey of John Lewis.” She also worked for eight seasons on NBC’s “Chicago Med.”
Black Public Media is a non-profit organization that helps support and fund Black media stories.
