Motion Picture Editors Guild honors the memory of departed members by publishing tributes written by their family, friends, and colleagues. These memorials help celebrate the lives and professional contributions of those who helped shape our community.
What to Include
Written tributes should:
• Be at least 250 words (longer pieces are welcome and may be edited for length).
• Highlight the member’s career accomplishments, including key credits, projects, or areas of specialty within the industry.
• Include personal reflections that convey the individual’s character, humor, generosity, or unique spirit.
• Note any Guild service, mentorship, or volunteer involvement that enriched the union or its members.
• You may also include biographical information such as birthplace, education, family, or hobbies.
Photographs
Please include at least one high-resolution photograph of the member, suitable for print and web publication. Additional photos are welcome. Ideally, include:
• A professional or workplace photo
• A personal or candid image that reflects the member’s personality
Accepted formats: JPG, PNG, or TIFF (minimum 1 MB per image).
By submitting the photo, the sender is granting the Guild an unrestricted license to publish the photo. Please do not submit photos from outside agencies such as Reuters or AP or those where the copyright might be held by another party.
Editorial Process
The Guild strives to preserve the tone and intent of each submission. Submissions may be edited for:
• Clarity and readability
• Length and formatting
• Consistency with Guild style and publication standards
We do not make substantive changes without cause, and we approach every memorial with care and respect.
Publication Timing
Memorials are published in our print magazine and/or online memorial section as soon as practicable. Because of production schedules and space limitations, we cannot guarantee publication by a specific date. However, we make every effort to publish tributes promptly.
