Labor Day Celebrations: March, Mingle, and Make Some Noise with Local 700

Local 700 is gearing up for an energizing Labor-iffic month on both coasts. Members will have three opportunities to show union pride and connect: the New York City Labor Day Parade on Saturday, Sept. 6; the Post–Labor Day Picnic in Los Angeles on Sunday, Sept. 7; and the 46th Annual LA/LB Harbor Labor Coalition Parade, Picnic, and Rally on Labor Day itself, Monday, Sept. 1.

Los Angeles: Labor Day Parade, Picnic, and Rally

New York: Marching Together at the Labor Day Parade

Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025 | 11:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. ET
Location: TBA

Local 700 members will join National Executive Director Scott George and union siblings from across IATSE to march in the 2025 New York City Labor Day Parade. The theme is simple and timely: Power in Unity.

This is more than a tradition—it’s a moment to show the breadth and strength of the “union behind entertainment.” Side by side with camera crews, crafts, and stage technicians, our post-production community will be out front, representing editors, assistants, sound teams, and more. Whether you’ve marched before or you’re new to the line of march, your presence matters. Every banner raised and every voice in the chant reinforces the message that union jobs, standards, and benefits are worth fighting for—and winning.

After the parade, stick around for a joint Interlocal Mixer with Local 600. It’s a chance to catch up with colleagues, meet new collaborators, and connect across crafts—exactly the kind of cross-union camaraderie that keeps our industry strong.

Register: Visit the Editors Guild website calendar and select “Save the Date – Labor Day Parade: Power in Unity” to RSVP and receive final staging details and updates.

This gathering is designed for all ages and all corners of our membership. If you’ve been hoping to introduce a partner or family member to your Guild community—or you just want a low-key backdrop to reconnect with colleagues—this picnic is for you. It’s also a great opportunity for newer members to meet Guild staff and leaders, ask questions, and plug into upcoming programs.

Register: Head to the Editors Guild website calendar and select “Post Labor Day Picnic” to purchase tickets and get day-of details.

Why Show Up?

Labor Day is rooted in action and acknowledgment—the recognition that the rights we enjoy at work were won by workers who stood together. In a year when many are pushing to protect and expand good union jobs, public visibility and member connection matter more than ever. The parade puts our spirit on display; the picnic strengthens the bonds that carry us through the next organizing drive, contract fight, or campaign.

Whether you’re marching up Fifth Avenue or spreading a blanket in Griffith Park, you’ll be part of a coast-to-coast moment for Local 700: showing who we are, what we value, and how we take care of one another.

So grab your marching shoes, your sun hat, and your union pride. We’ll see you in the street—and on the lawn.
