Throughout the month of May, the Pan Pacific Asian Steering Committee will highlight Asian American members—past and present—celebrating their achievements and contributions.
What is your name?
Evita Yuepu Zhou
What is your classification or job?
Picture Editor.
List the credits you’re most proud of.
I’m especially proud of my work on the limited series, The Brothers Sun. I had the opportunity to work alongside the legendary Michelle Yeoh and be part of a predominantly Asian crew, which was incredibly meaningful.
I’m also very proud of Factory, a documentary about one of Lenovo’s largest manufacturing sites and suppliers in China. I feel very fortunate to have worked with the acclaimed director Hao Zhou.
What are you watching right now?
I’m watching “A Touch Of Zen” by King Hu back in 1971.
What would be your dream project to work on?
My dream show would be editing the next season of “Severance”. My dream film I’d like to work on is a psychological thriller drama with social issues underneath it.
What was your favorite childhood food dish?
Porridge, porridge, porridge. Salted water boiled freshwater shrimps. And pan fried cauliflower.
How has your cultural identity shaped your career choices?
My cultural identity plays a big role in the stories I’m drawn to, and I feel lucky to work on projects that reflect my background, which makes the work very personal. But there’s also a flip side—people sometimes see me primarily as an editor for Asian or Chinese-related content, rather than simply an editor who can tell more kinds of stories.
