Troy Takaki, ACE: Picture Editor

Throughout the month of May, the Pan Pacific Asian Steering Committee will highlight Asian American members—past and present—celebrating their achievements and contributions.

Troy Takaki is a picture editor in the film and television industry, known for his versatile skills and his commitment to mentoring and education.

He began his career in Los Angeles in 1990 after graduating with a degree in cinema from San Francisco State University. Initially focusing on television, Takaki worked on popular series such as “Desperate Housewives,” “Ally McBeal,” and “Tales from the Crypt.”

His editing prowess extended to successful motion pictures like “Sweet Home Alabama,” “The Bounty Hunter,” “Fool’s Gold,” “Diary of a Wimpy Kid,” and “Hitch.”

In recent years, Takaki has continued to make significant contributions to the industry, including winning an ACE Eddie for his work on the Docuseries “Escaping Twin Flames.”

Takaki is dedicated to fostering the next generation of editors. Since 2003, he has been actively involved in the ACE Internship Program, and in 2015, helped start the ACE Diversity Mentorship Program. In recognition of his work to help create a more diverse editing community in the industry , Takaki was presented with the 2023 Sundance/Adobe Mentorship For Fiction award.

In addition, Takaki shares his knowledge and experience as an Adjunct Professor at Columbia College Chicago, where he teaches “Career Planning in Post-Production.”
