Preparations for the upcoming 70th Quadrennial IATSE Convention are underway, with the aim of bringing hundreds together to continue to shape our Union.
Every four years, delegates from more than 360 IATSE locals gather to shape the future of their union. This year’s IATSE Convention—the union’s highest governing body—will take place July 28 to August 1, 2025, in Honolulu, Hawai‘i, with events and sessions scheduled at the Sheraton Waikiki and nearby venues. This convention will help set the course for the union’s direction, priorities, and leadership for the next four years.
“The new four years begin right here,” said Alan Heim, ACE, President of the Motion Picture Editors Guild. “Our convention sets the priorities, elects the leaders, and builds the momentum to make real gains for each and every IATSE member.”
Elected delegates from IATSE locals across North America will gather to perform the convention’s most critical duties, including electing top international officers. The seats of International President, General Secretary-Treasurer, 13 Vice Presidents, 3 Trustees, and a Canadian Labour Congress Delegate will be up for reelection. Equally as important will be voting on proposed constitutional amendments and resolutions that could shape union policy, workplace standards, and the future direction of the broader labor movement.
The agenda includes leadership reports on organizing campaigns, contract negotiations, finances, and political initiatives, alongside committee meetings on disaster response, sustainability, and LGBTQ+ issues. Workshops and caucuses will tackle topics ranging from labor law to diversity, safety, and strategies for strengthening member power. Guest speakers from the labor and entertainment worlds will highlight IATSE’s place in the wider labor landscape.
This year’s convention kicks off with pre-event programming for young workers, district caucuses, and political action sessions. Over the following days, delegates will participate in daily sessions, craft-specific caucuses, memorials, and hospitality events, with the week culminating in the election of officers and final convention business.
Beyond formal proceedings, the convention offers delegates the chance to build relationships, exchange local experiences, and collaborate on strategies to strengthen the entertainment workforce. Training and educational opportunities reinforce union solidarity and ensure members remain at the forefront of industry progress.
The decisions made at the IATSE Convention have wide-reaching implications. From shaping organizing strategies to influencing political endorsements, the convention is a cornerstone of union governance—ensuring that members’ voices continue to guide the future.
