Editors Guild Receives $200,000 Anonymous Donation to Hardship Fund

By Guild Staff

The Editors Guild has received a $200,000 anonymous donation to its Hardship Fund, a boost that is expected to significantly enhance its capacity to support members in need.

Last September, the Board of Directors approved the Local 700 Hardship Relief Fund in response to the recent downturn in the industry and allocated $130,000 from the Guild treasury to bolster its launch. Since its inception, the fund has provided critical aid to nearly 100 members dealing with unexpected financial challenges. The latest contribution is expected to sustain and potentially expand these support efforts.

Additionally, Local 700 Board member Shiran Miller, who won $40,000 in last year’s Union Plus “Unions Power America” contest, donated her winnings  to the Local 700 Hardship Fund. Her donation demonstrated her commitment to supporting fellow industry professionals.

“Unions are all about solidarity, and our members have proven time and again they have each other’s backs,” said Alan Heim, ACE, President of the Editors Guild. “This latest donation just proves the enduring value of unionism, in good times and bad.”

The Entertainment Community Fund, which administers the Guild’s fund, is a charitable entity dedicated to supporting performers and behind-the-scenes workers across the entertainment industry. Annually, the ECF assists over 17,000 individuals through a variety of programs, including social services, emergency financial aid, healthcare and insurance counseling, affordable housing, and employment and training services. Its reach spans film, theater, television, music, opera, radio, and dance.

How to Contribute

Those who want to help are encouraged to make a donation. Contributions of any amount will support the Local 700 Hardship Relief Fund and help sustain and expand its programs.

Request Assistance

Members in need of support are invited to request assistance from the Local 700 Hardship Relief Fund. The fund aims to provide timely and effective help to those experiencing financial hardship.
Both donations and requests for help are vital in reinforcing the community’s network and strengthening the collective ability to face challenges and provide mutual support.
