Editors Guild recovered nearly $1 million worth of unpaid wages and benefits on behalf of members in 2024, according to an internal report.
For the Western Region, Local 700 recovered a total of $649,009, with the bulk ($389, 270) coming from unpaid wages for members. Another $135,137 came from damages paid to the local. The remainder was due to recovered benefit contributions and holiday/vacation pay. Overall, the Guild uncovered 175 contractual provision violations across five different contract agreements.
For the Eastern Region, the recovery total added up to $213,502, the vast majority ($148,029) in the form of unpaid wages. There were also smaller sums for damages to the local, benefit contributions, work from home/vacation pay, and box/kit rental pay. (See chart for details.)

The enforcement process has several layers. Guild staff manages a database of projects and relevant contract details, and secures crew lists to inform the members of contract provisions. They also inform management of the most commonly misunderstood or most violated contract provisions. Finally, they analyze the records of projects that had deposits or bonds with payroll companies to make sure members were properly paid. No bond is released until the staff determines that any contract violations were settled.
“Preserving the rights of the membership under the collective bargaining agreements is one of the most important roles of a union,” Jessica Pratt, Western Executive Director, and Jennifer Myers, Eastern Executive Director, said in a statement. “We remain committed to fighting aggressively for all of our members so that they receive the pay and benefits they are entitled to.”
